FAQ About The Site

last updated June 2005

1. What's up with http://www.tekknowledge.com/gonzo? http://www.goldcoastdigital.com/gonzo?

Eck...long story...that I'm tired of telling. I was unable to upload to the tekknowledge server, and the domain has now expired.

In a nut...please don't link to http://www.tekknowledge.com/gonzo or http://www.goldcoastdigital.com/gonzo anymore. Use http://www.gonzo.org. You can imagine what a pain in the ass this is going to be to try and improve rankings in the search engines :-) Our dear friend Brett, formerly of Gold Coast Digital Solutions, found new employment, and we were out of a host for about two weeks. We are now hosting with Telus.

It's also another reason why it's so important to get your own domain - you can move around and not have to worry about things like that. I think I have removed just about all those links from the old pages.

2. When did TGTH first start?

Fall, 1996. It's hard to put a date on it. I began the Geocities site in October, but TGTH wasn't known as that until 1997. Oh man, that old site is so embarrassing and purple. I'm glad The Wayback Machine didn't have it archived.

3. How many hours a day do you work on the site?

I used to devote roughly a whopping 40 hours a week to TGTH. Then I met my husband, found full time employment and whammo! I am also pursing a BFA (I completed half of the journalism certificate from SAIT and changed my mind), and now roughly update the site every couple of weeks. Alas, a lot has changed in my life since 1996 and I'm no longer the teenager with two much time on her hands.

4. How come you're not in Geocities any more?

Apparently Yahoo! Geocities deleted my old home page without warning sometime in 2005, so it's no longer there.

5. I can give you free hosting!

After my previous experience with free hosting, I have to decline such kind offers. It's nice to know that so many people care, but hosting from Telus only costs about $50 a month. Telus is less of a pain in the ass that it used to be, and I am quite happy with their service and tools.

6. Aren't you the librarian?

No. I have a library technician certificate. I went to college for that, however, I don't have my Masters of Library Science. I have thought about pursuing it, though. I did work for the public library for about two and a half years and worked simultaneously for 8 months at Mount Royal College. Alas, it's hard to get anywhere in a library system, and I became a web developer. That lasted for six and a half years. I now keyword images for a stock photography agency.

7. Are you really Canadian?

Yes. It's always amusing when people from other countries write to complain about Americans and assume I am one.

8. When is the site updated?

Usually about every two weeks now. The "new" and "updated" symbols beside a link tell you that the page has changed. You can also bookmark the "What's New/Coming Soon" page.

9. How large is the site now?

It's about 150MB in six main sections :-)

10. How many people work on TGTH? Who answers all the mail?

Many people contribute to the content, but in the end, it's only me that codes and uploads everything, as well as answer all the email. That's why it can take a while for me to reply to everyone. It's also why I set up these FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions. It's not that I don't like to read email, but it really does take up a lot of time to read, sort, organize and reply to email. I cannot always guarantee a response.

I now have help for the tattoos and many people have kindly volunteered for the article submissions, when I get back to that.

11. Oh noez!!! I thought this was a fan site! Instead I'm reading something negative about HST!!! Oh noez!

As a writer, HST's work is open to acclaim and criticism. Not liking one of his books, criticizing or disagreeing with something about his writing does not make someone any less of a gonzo fan.
